Acquiring and Exploring Data

Learning Outcomes

This module introduces approaches to collecting data and performing early exploration. Participants learn key differences between sampling methods and why some approaches allow reliable conclusions while others introduce bias. Emphasis is placed on using simple visual and summary techniques to explore new datasets, identify issues such as missing values or outliers, and build an initial understanding of the data before deeper analysis.

Learning outcome one

Understand different methods of acquiring data, for example studies and surveys.

Learning outcome two

Recognize the danger of bias by looking at different sampling methods.

Learning outcome three

Review approaches to data exploration to fully understand the capabilities and limitations of your dataset.
