Pierre Bruneau
A man of the media and of challenges, he divides his time among his various passions. Described as the “marathon runner of news,” Pierre Bruneau is the anchor who has been achieving the highest ratings for nearly 30 years now. It goes without saying that his reputation is well established. Reassuring and approachable, he prioritizes a human approach to news coverage. He always seeks to gauge the impact of a news story on the lives of his listeners.
On January 16, 2009, to raise funds for children with cancer—a cause particularly close to his heart—Pierre Bruneau reached the summit of Kilimanjaro for the second time. A total of ten participants from Quebec successfully completed the climb, along with four public figures. These determined men and women all overcame the challenges of high altitude by reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro, which stands at 5,895 meters. From January 3 to 18, Pierre Bruneau and his team battled intense cold, with temperatures hovering around -20 degrees. They braved physical discomforts such as nausea, intestinal issues, and headaches. They persevered despite the increasingly acute lack of oxygen.
As Pierre Bruneau says in his talks, success in business or in climbing a mountain like Kilimanjaro depends on preparation. With his passion for life, he inspires the people he meets to never give up in the face of adversity. Perseverance, passion, commitment, and pushing oneself beyond one’s limits are the values he will share with you during his inspirational talks.
Michael Landsberg
Michael Landsberg is an ambassador for Bell Let’s Talk, an initiative raising awareness about mental health, and the founder of #SickNotWeak, a charity that reframes mental illness as a health issue, rather than a character flaw. The foundation serves as both a resource and community for people living with mental illness and those who wish to support their loved ones.
“I want people who suffer from depression to feel motivated to share and to get help without fear of being judged. And I want people who don’t suffer, but who will be touched by depression, to look at this as an illness and not a weakness and to create an environment where more people can share and not feel like they are being judged,” Michael Landsberg explains.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Michael Landsberg has extended his efforts with #SickNotWeak to create Isolation Nation: a digital program dedicated to mitigating the dangerous effects of social isolation on mental health. Now he wants to bring the message of hope to associations and companies across the country with Isolation Nation Two-Point-Oh!
In his documentary Darkness and Hope: Depression, Sports, and Me, Michael Landsberg opened up about his own struggles with depression, as well as interviewing famous guests about their own battles.
Olympian Clara Hughes, two-time Stanley Cup champion Stéphane Richer, and four-time World Series winner Darryl Strawberry all appeared in the film. Darkness and Hope was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award, and Landsberg was personally honored with the organization’s Humanitarian Award.
The Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health also named Michael Landsberg one of its Champions of Mental Health.
One of the best-known personalities in Canadian broadcasting, Landsberg has been with TSN since the network’s inception. He hosted Off the Record from its debut in 1997 to its finale in 2015 and is currently the co-host of TSN’s First Up.
Twice nominated for the Gemini Award for Best Host or Interviewer in a Sports Program or Sportscast, Landsberg was the Whistler Host for Olympic Daytime on CTV during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. During the London 2012 Olympic Games, he anchored TSN’s Olympic Daytime.
Landsberg suffers from generalized anxiety disorder and depression. Landsberg is a supporter for mental health awareness and is trying to popularize the hashtag #sicknotweak in tribute to his mental illness.
Landsberg has since transformed #sicknotweak from a trending topic to a movement with the launch of sicknotweak.com – a forum for those suffering from depression and a resource for those supporting a loved one who needs help.
